UC Davis Medical Laboratory

Problem

The three existing 55.0-ton air cooled chillers at UC Davis Medical Center were no longer able to maintain chilled water loop temperature when the ambient temperature exceeded 90°F. Additionally, the fittings connecting the chilled water piping were leaking, causing subsequent water damage throughout the entire facility.

Solution

Chillermen custom designed and manufactured three 72-ton evaporative condensing chillers using the Pulse-Pure water treatment system. The chillers were installed on the roof of the building and connected to the existing chilled water piping. The new chillers were able to maintain chilled water loop temperature even when the ambient temperature exceeded 90°F. The Pulse-Pure water treatment system also eliminated the need for chemicals, which reduced the environmental impact of the chillers.

Benefits

The new chillers have provided several benefits to UC Davis Medical Center, including:

  • Improved cooling: The new chillers are able to maintain chilled water loop temperature even when the ambient temperature exceeds 90°F. This has prevented water damage and ensured that the lab is kept at a safe temperature.
  • Reduced energy costs: The new chillers are more energy efficient than the old chillers. This has saved UC Davis Medical Center money on their energy bills.
  • Reduced environmental impact: The Pulse-Pure water treatment system eliminates the need for chemicals. This has reduced the environmental impact of the chillers.
  • Increased reliability: The new chillers are more reliable than the old chillers. This has reduced downtime and ensured that the lab is always available when needed.

Conclusion

The new chillers from Chillermen have been a success for UC Davis Medical Center. The chillers have improved cooling, reduced energy costs, reduced environmental impact, and increased reliability.
